Cheap rib racks

Hi Folks, I'm just passing on an idea.
Rib racks seem to cost a packet for a cheap wire rack. As a very robust alternative, IKEA make a stainless steel expanding pot lid holder -
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70154800/. It will hold up to six racks of ribs.
It only costs a fiver. The only snag is that they have plastic feet - however, these can be unscrewed.

Just looking, it says the height is 3cm - that's only just over 1" - does it support the ribs OK?

Ikea's quite a way from us (about 30 miles), but I was in Dunelm earlier and they have these:

It's 12" wide, 7" deep and 6" high. It should be great for 4 racks of ribs.

I'd be cautious using anything that isn't designed to be in a heated environment. You don't want any galvanized metal parts in your pit, as they give off toxic fumes in a heated environment.
Even if it says stainless steel, they didn't say all the parts are solid stainless, just that there is stainless there somewhere.

Thanks for that Phil, looks excellent and theres a dunelm 10 mins from us.
Of course its other use is as a toast rack to hold 4 slices of toast from your home made bread, door stop size!

I like the idea of the Ikea one, if it's large enough to support the racks - the beauty is that it folds for storage.

The pack size is 3cm high and I would make a guess it comes flat packed and you have to screw the posts in
To hold pots lids they'd have to be much longer than 3 cm

I almost ordered one on line, but the postage was £5 and anything else I could think of to bulk the order up a bit was only available in store.

That's a kind thought, but no, it's not. It's not that we can't afford it, it's just a 'sort of' matter of principle.
