first usage of grinder

Where to buy, how to use. Stuffers, casings, spices, grinders, etc.

first usage of grinder

Postby badjak » Fri May 09, 2014 4:34 pm

I bought a new electric grinder (some no-name brand, we don't have a lot of choice here) so I can do small batches by myself instead of having to ask someone to help me with the hand cranked grinder (size 32).

I cleaned all removable parts with hot water and soap to remove any trace of machine oil.
Is there something else I should do before starting to use it?
I was thinking of grinding some bread through it for a thorough clean, or maybe some onions or a batch of meat for the dog.

The main reason for this is that I think I messed up some time ago by not washing a new grinder plate (for the hand grinder) properly and ending up with a batch of sausage that did not taste very good .

Thanks

I'd be tempted to put something cheap and non-essential through it before using it for good meat.

Then time fos a sausage making section tomorrow or the day after. The meat is being defrosted as I write :D
