Sorry, been "neglecting" the smoking process!

Postby GUS » Sun Oct 12, 2014 8:41 am

As per my last post, we were stymied by the fact our bitch was pregnant (we are not stupid I promise) she go's into full phantom, milk production etc..

So everything was "dropped" & a room converted to a whelping room with red lighting, widdle proof flooring, phenolic board insulation &, camera, temp, humidity, sound, monitoring.

We lost the bitch on the vets table, at point of incision for a c section (dead) ..but brought round.
Then the process (despite pig bars) someone always in attendance in case a pup gets squashed, (no sleep).

Mum / pups not feeding properly so took over between us which amounted to 1 of every 2 hours feeding.. (taking an hour each time).

Sadly, despite utmost care & experience we fought & eventually lost all the pups to "fade syndrome" (despite them receiving colostrum) over some honestly harrowing days & nights. (the pups were on the bed in the end so we could doze just a bit, with one eye closed but ears open)
Thus tired, & emotional we have just shut down for a while.

sorry for not answering messages (they don't go to my email) ...simply put we are burnt out in the meantime.

When I feel back on form, i'll be back.

Sorry to hear about the pups, hope the bitch has recovered fully from the trauma.

Best wishes. Ste

That's awful Gus.

Things like this make us realise what is really important to us.

Look after each other.

Well, we are all sad but feeling a bit better, sorry to sound melodramatic, but I feel a lot closer to animals than people, ..it's just the way I am, often cold & logical but animals being weak, are my weakness.

On the flipside, & it does make me think, I had the best day possible yesterday that was nudging me to get my stride back...

I came second ((really)) in Macs bbq competition, ...I only entered for a laugh, in a spare moment, so soon will be in receipt of some incredibly welcome kit, Macs have really made me smile first time in a while, prior to this I was a tad catatonic, finding myself repeatedly standing in the larder staring but not seeing, ...weird.

SO when they announced winners contact details needed on twitter I "moaned" back, on twitter that wouldn't be me then, ..as you do (heh-heh), I had a reply that I didn't take seriously that they thought i'd come second overall, ..I thought they were joking

Checked over on facecloth (which I don't use) ..& bingo! t'was "for real"

it was for cold smoked Tarmite, ..y'can see why I was doubtful

One of the prizes was Macs "Artisan" cold smoke generator ...yippee! ..I'll look forward to playing with & posting a review on Amazon for (as there isn't much there yet) ..as I will with the other kit, which should really bring on my ability & wobbly technique

Will post up a pic of my treasure trove upon receipt, ..needless to say, as someone who doesn't participate in xmas etc (I don't get it) ..this would be kit I would choose for myself if I were to "treat myself"

I don't think signs come much clearer than that, do you!?

Sweet, I road tested the ulti-mitts (pair) last night holding a scorching pan of much hotness for several minutes, straight from the oven, ..only the merest flicker of warmth registered.

Highly recommended (I have numerous "I believe my fingers are made of asbestos" moments most weeks) ..so these are in the kitchen, ready for regular deployment until I pull my finger out & get the bbq sorted for a pulled pork or similar... soon I promise).

I don't know what blokes innate aversion to wearing gloves of this type are (I used to be like this where our woodburner was involved, yet once I bought a pair of gauntlets I was smitten, & had uncooked forearms when stoking the fire.

So, convention be damned, "I wear ulti-mitts & I am proud" ...very comfy, get some on your list, I burnt myself on the weber last summer & that wasn't even lit, merely strong sunlight!

They reach a nice way over exposed flesh of the fore-arm but aren't cumbersome, allowing good digit dexterity (I haven't tried eating chicken wings whilst wearing these, ..no).

Being cotton lined they feel very comfortable to slip on, clearly one size fits all, the material moulds to shape so do try a pair on to get the gist if you see em around.
