Wiring up a PTC

Wiring up a PTC

Postby Swing Swang » Thu Jun 04, 2015 1:01 pm

If I pull out all of the connections from a PTC, then wire up the neutral feed to N and the live feed to C I presume that the fridge will run continuously.

I've fried a couple of PTCs already for reasons known to me (inpatience and moving fridge), but I'm keen not to fry another.

The PTC that I'm using is this one, and the fridge is a model that doesn't have a starter capacitor

you need to short/by pass the thermostat to make it run continuously.

Its the thermostat that decides if the compressor runs not the PTC.

Thanks - got there in the end without blowing it up - useful to be able to take the old one to bits to see how it worked - ripped out the thermostat and the light from the fridge to give extra width to allow large items to hand the full length of the fridge without bumping into the 'stat housing. Now run with external temp/humidity controller, so all good for next batch.
