The new experimental cold smoking thread

I've been following these threads with interest and look forward to the Mk 2 version, which I would be pleased to test run. I've hot smoked in my kettle barbecue using the prunings from fruit trees put through the mulcher, the flavours of the smoke really came through and everyone enjoyed it.
Cold smoking I'd like to try, but initially on a smaller scale than a Bradley, so your endeavours in this area Dave, will be much appreciated in this quarter I can assure you.

I'm still with you "Dr Dave", I live in an area with significant numbers of power cuts!!! And 20 quid for an electric bean can! I can make a lot of sausages for that.

I think that the electric bean-can would only hold a few teaspoons of material at a time, so unless you want to smoke your bangers one at a time in a length of drain-pipe...........

I'm still looking for a decent alternative to aluminium ducting to transport smoke from my smoke generator to the barrel I use. It works fine in the short term, but it only takes about 100 hours of smoke before it becomes brittle and breaks down.

Any ideas Dave?

Oooh! My first post.

Be careful with any non-lumpwood charcoal as the starch used to compact the dust together can give a bitter acrid smoke taste.

I haven't tried cold smoking yet, but have been hot smoking for about 10 years and only ever use lumpwood charcoal (environmentally sourced of course) and either hardwoods or fruit woods as the smoke supplier. Remember to remove any bark as that produced bitterness as well.

I'm awaiting delivery of a supply of the tablets Wohoki found. As they are suitable for inhalation I'm hoping they won't produce any bitterness.
