I bought an indian spice pack in Tescos at the weekend for 99p. It had a very fresh piece of turmeric root in it, needless to say half of it went straight into the pot (of soil that is).

I buy my fresh turmeric from a chinese supermarket in London's Chinatown so I guess other oriental supermarkets have it.

You might use a good quality dried turmeric, I know it's always good to use fresh if you can and to follow the recipes as close as you can, but I notice it is pan dried to drive off all the moisture so it might work if you add a little more water so it can be "cooked" for the 60 minutes. I would probably use about 1/4 to a 1/3 of the 175 grams. It is certainly a recipe that I will try in the very near future.

Cheers
