Ah I see, yes, I misunderstood you, I placed no value on my soldering iron, and would prefer an intermittent device to go terminal and thus make me get one that wasnt a nuisance, lol !

Another thought that I will try one day :-
I once had a light bulb (cant remember if it was 40w or 60w) that accidentally came in contact with some woodshavings without me noticing, I was alerted by the smell and found quite a lot of charred savings under it.
(just a thought from the Heath-Robinsion department ! )

I have discussed the light bulb concept at work, the only problem would be getting enough wood in contact with the bulb without the bulb going pop.

It is not too bad having to reset a circuit breaker every now and then, but would be nice to leave it to its own devices, I am not going to play with the earth though.

[I only suggest it whilst you would be in attendance on your trip. I would not advise it if you had other folk, children, wandering the area :-!( But hardly worth the bother when new ones are so cheap ]
