The aquarium pump idea came from PorkyPa, I just incorporated it into the various concepts I was working on at the time.

I agree that Tony Beloney's is completely plagerised from the internet, but I wouldn't have my final design without the ideas and discussions that have been tossed around with other people, and of course people like Jenn and Debbie who volunteered to test out some of my very early original ideas. The major difference is I always acknowledge my sources and it is completely home grown from within this forum

Now, I must dust off my River Cottage login and put this upstart in his place... :wink:

I used your soldering iron/bean tin one in the early days. I now used a gas ring/cast iron pot in both my hot and cold smoker set up.

I'm wondering whether to go down the air pump route. Would it really give me the freedom to leave it unattended for 6-8 hours?

Not tonight John, I couldn't remember my login, so tried to create a new account. It recognised someone called Saucisson already had an account from my email address (Durh, really? :roll:

) but then everything went pear shaped as I tried to get in as Saucisson such that I locked myself out and have thrown myself at the mercy of admin to let me in.

I might have another go later...

The answer is yes and no. I create a miniature firebox. It is self contained, I don't have to worry about leaving a gas supply on un-supervised. I can go out and know the worst thing that will happen is that the fire will go out and I will have to relight it.

It's a fire in miniature so can be very picky, and go out. Generally, if it keeps going for an hour I know I'm on to a winner and can leave it. On New Years Eve I nipped out in the frost, hacked down the dead vine canes and smoked bacon on vine clippings overnight

Other times I set it up and come back to a box of unburnt wood.

This is probably because I try and smoulder half logs and other esoteric things in it. If I just put chippings in they'd burn all night without any intervention.

Just on a star wars theme my 17 year old son was going out last week to a party or something and my wife said to him as he was leaving, "Be careful when you're at the party and don't do anything stupid with some girl there". My son looked at her and said "Don't worry I'll keep Jabba in his hut"
I cracked up. My wife didn't find it funny at all.
