Building a new cooker.

That's correct, I phoned Weber (01756 692600) to check. They also confirm that there isn't a 'nut and bolt' fitting on the back.

The one you are looking at is for sticking into the food to read internal temps.

I beg to differ DrS, it's the one they fit to their gas barbecues. That's why it's calibrated up to 288 deg C. People have been quite ingenious at getting it to fit http://virtualweberbullet.com/moretherm.html

The food one available here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... d_i=468294 goes up to 110 deg C.

That said the one you linked to would be much better for the purpose, because you can bolt it in place and forget it.

Dave

In all honesty you can use just about an thermo to get the temps from just about anything but it's more about having the proper tool for the job. I'll have to go back and have a look at the link but I don't remember seeing threads on the back of it. Perhaps it meant to be pushed through then clipped. That would work too.

I have seen guys bore out threads of bolts and make a sleeve, bolt it to the cooker then slide the thermo like the one you posted in at will. Great idea for reaching the middle of the cooker for a more accurate reading.

Right now it's best ( but only in my opinion) to use the K.I.S.S method when starting out then move up when you get a grasp on your cooker etc.

Cheers

Porker might still be able to piggy back (did I really type that  ) on Dr S's order though.

Yes, I hope so. Regrettably, 'cos I have to sleep at sometime during the day, I didn't.

However, I'm happy with the price, some UK suppliers charge more P & P!

Fantastic, and a good weekend to fire it up. Is that the fire extinguisher mounted on the right hand shelf? :)
