I missed out on chilli growing last year as I was too slow to start, is it too early to grow from seed inside ? I would like some early chillies this year.

You can start now indoors and will need to keep them warm and probably use artificial lighting as the days are not long enough yet. We plant seeds in heated propagators about march time and then into an unheated greenhouse about april, depending on frosts as our spring seems to be getting later and later. If you plant an early like cherry bomb for instance you should have fruit in July but bonnets and habaneros like a good 9 months unless kept warm and lit well.

I did receive them, I am planning to start them off over easter when I've a bit more spare time, can they be finished outside later in the summer?

They can be but the habanero/bonnet types require the longest growing season of them all and probably won't see many ripenened chillis until october time, so will probably need some kind of protection outside even if its a plastic sheet of some kind to keep the warmth up and the wind off.

wilf, have you herd of a chilli called Tepin? They clame to be the worlds hotist?

I am trying to grow them with some firecrackers and heatwave.

Hi Deer Man, you're right they are very hot, from Mexico and are small round oval shaped, orange to reddish brown chillis, under 10mm in size. I do have some seeds but have not grown any yet as I'm still working my way thro the 100 or so varieties I have, also fairly difficult to germinate I think, are yours up?

Hi Wilf,

just planted them last week. My tomatoes are showing. They are all in the same plastic seed tray in the kitchen.

These chillie varieties are a first for me, I grew a couple of bushes last year but i don't know what they were.

I will let you know how I get on.
