Hot Smoker

Hot Smoker

My dad recently gave me a char broil h20 charcoal smoker he bought in the states years back. I've used it a few times but have always been frustrated by how incredibly long it takes to get up to cooking temperature, and then if you lift the lid it's back to square 1 again.

I had an old portable/camping gas barby kicking about in the garage so I thought I'd try and convert the smoker to gas using the burner from the barby. It was incredibly easy - no more that 30 minutes start to finish to remove the burner, drill an access hole in the smoker's charcoal pan and then fit the burner.

I had a dry run last night and it now it takes 10 minutes to heat up, I'm really pleased with it - there'll be some brisket going in it this weekend for certain.

It's not pretty, but then again, not many of my ventures are....

You're right it's not pretty but I love it. I just saw a similar conversion on another site and it got me thinking.
Be sure to post some pic's of that brisket, I've been wanting to do one for weeks but haven't had the time.
