Percentage loss

Percentage loss

I am trying to find the percentage loss of some fish I have brined and smoked.
The original weight was 522g
After brining and smoking 443g

I thought the formula was: the original weight minus final weight, divided by the original, weight then multiplied by 100

522-443/522*100 but that gives me a loss of 15.13%

Surely thats not right.

Oh, yes! 522-443 = 79 which is quite exactly 15.13 % of 522.

15.13% of 522 equals 78.9786 so it looks about right to me too.
