Continuous CSG using saw dust

Hi Hoggy,
Brilliant little project that you have going there, am enjoying the evolution that it is going through.
Have you thought of pressurizing your unit with a fan perhaps behind your motor. That way you can keep your motor cool and force the smoke out of the container into your box. :)
No one knows more than all of us.

If the smoke box was below the chamber, could you not just use a 'chimney' to get from one to the other?

The whole idea is, that if I put money and energy in something like this, I also would like maximum output. I have made a wooden shelf with the CSG mounted on it, so I can be mobile. I can bring it to my BBQ, and connect it there, or in summer time I can bring it to the summer house, in this way I am not limited to a fixed set-up.

Now about your comments:

The idea was to pressurize the unit with the air provided of the aquarium pump. As I have 2 outlets on the air pump, I use one for the fire-box, and the other one I bring to the motor compartment, both airflows have to leave the box by the 1" PVC outlet when the cover is on the box. See picture below.
THIS IS THE SITUATION THAT YOU SAW IN THE VIDEO
But for my feeling the 1" outlet is too much of a bottle-neck, too much resistance. Without the hose it is OK, but with the hose it is alomost as if the smoke does not want to come out.

Perhaps so, but I am aiming for a stand-alone unit, just plug it in, connect a hose en voila....I prefer to make solutions on the unit itself, so I can connect it to any smoker I want ( bbq etc ) without adjusting any connected smoker.

I am thinking of attaching a small tube fan on the 1" outlet and hope that will solve the displacement of the smoke. But it will take some time, as I got a " list to do " from my girlfriend....

I'm sure that if anyone can solve it Hoggy, you will. Oh how I wish that I had the skills to do this but I'm useless at anything like this.

I was able to fix my problem as it seems now ( yes...the "to-do" list is done....)

I made from some PVC and a computer fan a nice in-line ventilator, you can see it working in the new video as well, but below is also a picture.

I do not need the air from the aquarium pump, as the fan sucks in enough fresh air. The nice part of this little fan is, that I can drop it in my smoker if bacon or salmon needs to dry before smoking, and I don't need a real air-tight food canister any more. You could also make a fan like this for your curing room, works well, and is not expensive...

Here is the video link, it is video no 2:

It WAS a bit of a waste, all that sawdust burning without smoking anything.
So with some small adjustments.....the cheese is in !

During the pictures above, it is -2 C outside, and inside the smoker it is +4 C, not so bad, in summer time I will be able to eliminate that with cooling elements inside the smoker.

Here is the result of a test going bad, while away for 10 minutes.....

Image

I closed the auger feed, and put some smouldering pellets in the small fire box and kept the air going. Looked for 10 mintues, it was going very well, put some more pellets in the basket ( 1/3 full ) and went to my computer. 15 mintes later, the fire was 3 feet high.....was just in time to save my smoker, the PVC ventilator was already burning....

Don't know exactly, as I was not there when it started, but my guess is, that the PVC ventilator between the 2 units was drawing too much air, so the pellets got too much air, and started into flames.
To give you an impression......there were only around 10 little pellets in the fire box, not more.

There was nothing wrong with the model, it was even very successful, it was only not meant for pellets as fuel.

Not taken at all Gill, just tried to say it was not the csm that didn't work, it went wrong because of my own stupidity....
