It seems in all of my cooking at present, deep fried is the king! I had an Argentine visitor tonight who asked for Churros... my dodgy Spanish translated this as doughnuts, while her and SWMBO were out getting supper, I knocked up a doughnut batch to prove.. only to find that Churros are these...

no yeast, basically deep fried hot pastry!

turned out all right, the tin lids were happy as was SWMBO.. my Argentine friend was well impressed especially after the doughnuts came out as well!

so... Churros!

Next time you do them, make chocolata for dipping them. If you're going to do it, go all the way!

looks good but i cant see how they work from that recipe?
plain flour with no baking powder or no eggs? surely you would end up with rock hard lumps of pastry?
Other half moaned on about me finding new hobbies ..found this site..now she's sorry!!

but they do... I am not sure on the chemistry, but we use a similiar pastry for deep fried empanada's, all of the local recipe books call for a hot pastry... this is so hot you can barely handle it as you do the final knead...

i done them on sunday using a recipe that was self rasing flour and eggs and they came out perfect, puffed up to about three times there size while cooking

I love churros and though I know that they are not the type of snack that would be healthy, at least you shorten your stay with things that really taste good and make you feel real great.

There are a lot of variations to it and personally, I just want them cooked plainly and I would them have the choice of dipping them on either while or milk chocolate mixes. Taste really great actually.
