Juicer base motor to Grinder Conversion idea

Postby JLPicard » Tue Aug 07, 2012 5:24 pm

I have like 4 vege/fruit juicers that are sitting around collecting dust. I've picked them up over the years here and there. I had the idea to use one of the Juicers I have called a Champion Juicer: http://www.championjuicer.com/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=14 and convert it to a meat grinder.

The question I have is about RPM's. The juicer is quite fast at 1725 RPM with a robust 1/3 HP motor. What is a typical RPM for a meat grinder?

I think I will probably have to build a RPM reduction system, with pulleys to get the the lower RPM's of a meat grinder.

My current grinder just can't handle the load I like to put it under.

It seems like meat grinder motors have to put out a lot of torque, it would probably take some creative gearing to transfer the high RPM output of a juicer to this application. I suppose it could be done, though.

They used to make a meat grinder attachment for the Champion.
They're on ebay occasionally.

Here's one along with the machine:

Thanks for the info, I didn't know Champion made an attachment to grind meat. However, I couldn't imagine running that thing at 1700 RPM grinding meat without some sort of gear reduction.

Why not sell the juicers and put the money toward a real grinder?

I am useing a 1/2 hp 1725 motor with a 40:1 gear reduction. Works great, its just fast enough and it never stalls. Not a good pic.

It came from some kind of dough rolling contraption from a bakery that closed here. I have seen others on ebay.

The first few turns will be very tight, but once it starts turning a few times it will loosen up. While doing this the jar should be upside down with a little oil under the rubber plastic motor coupling to lubricate the mixie mixer grinder jar blades.
