Anyone in the Uk/Eire with a wood-burning stove may be interested in what Aldi are selling this week (5/09). Iron Log impact log splitter 2kg weight @ £6.99, 3.5kg sledge hammer @ £12.99 and a foot operated log splitter @ £39.99 - uses 1.2 ton of pressure with each press. weighs 11.5 kgs.

Not that I'm in the UK, but on tools in general: I and a couple of coworkers have found that the Fiskars X27 splitting axe does a really nice job for splitting rounds of firewood.

They also have shorter ones for those who prefer a 71 cm / 28" haft or less.
