Leaky smoker chimney. "drip"

Either a winter fog mist / condensation problem resulting in back-spill of smoke fluid onto the product (500g bries) ...what do you guys do?

I'm contemplating washing & drying the flue (which is pretty colourful) this will take days as it's plastic tumbledrier vent.

Does anyone have a drip catcher lip or frequent patting downs of within reach duct / piping?

curious as I need to consider this into anything subsequently installed.
moisture was high "wet" as you'd expect of the uk at this time of year .

I've not had this problem, but I'd look to having something to stop anything dripping on to the product. I'm not sure that cleaning the flue will cure it; you need to sort out what's causing it.

Small plastic candyfloss pot to the rescue (again)
Have cut a pot down but left 3 "arms" with the complete rim in place to catch drip / weather condensate & intend to make it part of the chimbley arrangement, this way there's a catcher for the smokey drip & free passage for the smoke exiting.

I did think of just using some fine aquarium based filter to soak up anything but the wife would not hear of it.

Think we should be back on track, or else i'll make a shallow metal inverted chinaman's hat type thing.

I would try to save that dripping, people pay good money for liquid smoke. At least this way if you want to use liquid smoke you can choose from the different varieties of wood you've used.

This is not an issue I've seen mention of, nor that even occurred to me. Definitely something to look for and have a plan for, though.

Sadly though as it's a very homemade unit i've incorporated a plastic tumble drier hose, which is made I suspect of PVC, not good for foodstuffs.

I will think about incorporating better materials for this purpose though.

If you do setup your rig to collect the liquid smoke make sure to post back on if you can actually tell a flavor difference between them. I'm curious as to if the liquid has any of the unique signatures or if only the basic smoke compounds condense.

Will do, when i've got a "proper" platform that i'm happy with, this'll mean making some ((bodgineering)) an extra chimney or two from pringles cans or similar I guess in order to avoid contamination of potential flavours I anticipate.

Was sorting a cupboard out last night & scratching ones head in a state of discombobulation at the amount of odds & sods of implements past, retrieved a nice stainless steel "thingy" which looks like it'll do the job further down the line, ensuring if needed I can keep the same "rank" smoked cheapo tumbler vent in operation till something better turns up, ..looks like it may have been an attachment for a hand mixer, it's eventual use will be an internals drip & general crap catcher from the chamber exit point, won't hack it with a dremel yet but based on a weather proof(ish) chimney cowl I may not have to sacrifice any time or kit to beyond a few drilled smoke holes..

"happiness" ...it's sat in the bionic smoker mk2 unit having been pondered upon for 12+ years & now has a purpose.
